These countries include New Zealand, Taiwan, India, and others.
In popular resort areas, there is a growing demand for vegan or plant-based dishes. Therefore, in a new report by the Veganism in the World Society, the best destinations for vegan tourists in 2026 have been revealed, as reported by Daily Mail.
New Zealand
Although New Zealand is known for its pastoral farming and high-quality lamb and beef, vegan food is becoming more popular, and many cafes and restaurants offer a variety of plant-based dishes.
According to the latest report by the Vegan Society, New Zealand has the highest number of vegan restaurants per capita in the world (344.81 restaurants per million people).
This figure includes vegan restaurants and regular establishments that have vegan dishes on their menus.
Taiwan
Taiwan is the world leader in the number of specialized vegan restaurants (14.8 per million population).
“Although meat plays a key role in many rice dishes, soups, and noodles, the country is known as a ‘vegan paradise’ due to its large number of specialized vegetarian/vegan restaurants,” the article states.
Portugal
Despite the fact that Portugal is known for its fresh, delicious cuisine based on seafood from the Atlantic Ocean, the Vegan Society has found that Portugal has the second-highest number of vegan restaurants per capita.Advertisementad
“However, it also ranks third in the world in terms of per capita consumption of fish/seafood. The good news is that “vegano” in Portuguese is very similar to the English spelling, so restaurants will be easy to distinguish,” according to the Daily Mail.
Iceland
Iceland has the highest percentage of restaurants in Europe that offer a single vegan menu.
“However, the presence of such restaurants does not mean a decrease in the consumption of meat and animal products. Iceland has one of the highest rates of meat and animal product consumption, at around 394 kg per capita per year, which is equal to that of the United States,” the report states.
India
In India, many dishes are naturally vegan, with an emphasis on legumes, vegetables, grains, and spices, with staple foods such as dal, chana masala (chickpea curry), and alu gobi (potatoes and cauliflower).
“Consumers in India are almost twice as likely as in the United States to say they are’ very or extremely likely ‘ to buy plant-based meat. The country has a diverse culinary tradition, which means that meat consumption varies by region. Chicken and goat meat are staples across the country, and pork and beef are also popular in some regions, ” the Daily Mail explained.
Singapore
Singapore is the country with the highest number of vegetarian restaurants per capita in the world, many of which offer vegan menus.
The country’s cuisine is an incredible blend of Chinese, Malay, Indian, and Peranakan cultures, and it is renowned for its rich flavors that can be found in affordable gastronomic centers.
“Other countries with rich Buddhist traditions, such as Vietnam and Japan, have formed a strong and diverse presence of vegan and vegetarian culinary experiences,” the publication concluded.
