This place offers movie lovers something to enjoy both inside and outside.
Visiting this town is like being in a real fairy tale, as its magical castle attracts tourists and moviegoers from all over the world. We are talking about the village of Alnwick, which is located deep in the county of Northumberland (England). This is reported by the Mirror.
This town has a “fascinating” castle that not only has a rich history, but may also look familiar if you’ve seen it on TV.
Alnwick Castle is known for its role in the Harry Potter films. It was used as the setting for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and its grounds were featured in some of the most iconic scenes.
“Movie fans will have plenty to enjoy both inside and out, and they can even take part in a broomstick flying lesson in the same place where the main characters, including Harry, Ron, and Hermione, learned to fly in their first year at Hogwarts,” the article added.
Also another unforgettable moment that was filmed right on the castle grounds is the flying car crash that landed in the courtyard. Also important scenes of Harry’s Quidditch training took place in the outer courtyard of the castle.
“In addition to Hogwarts, the castle is the second largest inhabited castle in the UK, and it has been home to the Percy family for over 900 years. It is believed that the building, which is a Grade I listed monument, was originally constructed in 1096 to protect the Northumberland border. It started as a wooden structure and eventually evolved into a stone fortress,” the Mirror reported.
In addition, there is a garden near the castle that offers a unique natural spectacle filled with wildlife.
“The Duchess of Northumberland founded this horticultural paradise in 2001, and it now boasts an impressive variety of roses, including over 200 English shrub roses and climbing roses. In total, visitors can admire up to 4,000 different plant species, including the world’s largest collection of Japanese cherry blossoms,” the publication concluded.
