This airport is very popular with travelers, but the prices in it “bite” and to have a snack you will have to say goodbye to a rather large amount. One of the tourists even said that he ate a banana there for 6 euros.
Airports are known to be expensive, but this one is probably the most expensive in the world, as beer is sold here for 17.50 euros, big macs for 21.50 euros and even bananas for 6 euros apiece.
According to the Daily Mail, Istanbul airport, which is visited by 220 thousand passengers daily, was named “the most expensive airport in the world” by travelers who saw outrageous prices for food and drinks.
Leonard Berbery, a journalist for the Italian news site L’Economia, said that when he visited Istanbul Airport, he saw a lasagna weighing just 90 grams sitting in the refrigerator, which sold for a whopping 24.50 euros.
“It’s more like a piece of brick with a sprinkle of something that looks like grated cheese and a pseudo-basil leaf,” he commented.
The tourist also found several croissants, which were sold for prices ranging from 14.50 euros to 17.50 euros depending on the filling, Italian chicken salads for 17.50 euros, and beer prices were completely extortionate.
Leonard said that before arriving at Istanbul airport, he enjoyed a half – liter bottle of Efes, Turkey’s most popular beer, for one and a half euros on Taksim Square, and in airport it costs 17.50 euros-an increase of 1067%.
Leonard also ventured into the many fast food establishments at the airport, and things didn’t fare much better.
At Popeyes, four fried chicken wings with Coca-Cola and French fries cost 17.50 euros. At McDonald’s, a big mac cost 21.50 euros, and a Double Quarter Pounder menu cost 25.30 euros. Meanwhile, Burger King charged 22 euros for a Whopper serving.
Leonard is not the only tourist who has noted the outrageous prices at Istanbul Airport.
