Excessive tourism makes popular cities suffer, and tourists look for alternative places to relax.
The influential travel and entertainment magazine Time Out has compiled a list of the 33 most underrated tourist destinations in the world, which you should consider when planning your next trip. On the one hand, this will help to unload the more crowded destinations and give impetus to the development of the less explored ones, and on the other hand, it will help tourists to avoid crowds and get more pleasant travel experience.
The top spot was taken by the Osa Peninsula in southwestern Costa Rica, which has yet to be reached by mass tourists due to the challenging road trip, which typically involves a combination of a small local plane, a rugged off-road vehicle, and a boat ride through the jungle wetlands.
The authors of the article note that this wild and remote part of the country is home to more than two percent of the planet’s biodiversity, including humpback whales, sloths, crocodiles, coatimundis, red macaws, yellow-breasted toucans, and many other species.
“This place is worth visiting to see the wildlife or just to enjoy completely untouched tropical beaches,” Time Out reported.
The second place in the ranking was taken by the small French seaside resort of Carrières-les-Roues in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, with its idyllic sea views, turquoise waters, and fresh seafood at affordable prices.
The top three was rounded out by the Tioga Pass in California (USA), a winding road in the Sierra Nevada mountains that passes through some of the most impressive viewpoints in Yosemite National Park and less-visited areas.
