The English Garden in Munich, Germany, topped the list.
While the culture of picnics in nature in urban parks (and not just in the middle of the forest) is just beginning to gain popularity among Ukrainians, it has long been common for Europeans to spread out a blanket in a central park and have lunch in the middle of the workday or gather with friends in the evening.
The British publication The Telegraph has found the best picnic spots across Europe.
“Across the continent, locals are turning parks, palace gardens, canal banks and castle lawns into open-air dining halls. No fuss, no fancy serving arrangements – just delicious food, pleasant company and time to relax and enjoy the moment. Pique-nique appeared in France in the 17th century and originally meant a joint dinner, where everyone contributed – but each country has developed its own version: from Italian long, lazy merenda in the shade (often consisting of cold pasta and prosciutto) to German dense rye sandwiches with kaffiklach (coffee chatter) in forest clearings and Swedish fika with cinnamon rolls, ” the authors of the material note.
Topping the list is the Englischer Garten in Munich, Germany, a landscape park founded in the late 18th century in the heart of the Bavarian capital and now a popular destination for hipsters. This is a huge park where surfers surf the river all year round, frisbee and picnic lovers fill the south lawns, and beer gardens buzz around the Kleinhesselocher See Lake. It seems that you can do anything here-yoga, horse riding and even watching wild sheep. In the summer, amateur performers stage plays in the local open-air amphitheater, and traditional ceremonies are held in the Japanese Tea House.
