Tenerife is the largest island in the Canary Archipelago. Washed by the Atlantic Ocean, it enjoys a well-deserved reputation as a great and fairly budget place for beach and wellness holidays. Tenerife is known for its black and white beaches, numerous parks, and the grandiose Teide volcano. In general, no one will be bored in Tenerife-natural and historical attractions, as well as entertainment for every taste, are so plentiful that there are more than one week’s worth of classes.
Teide Volcano
The Teide volcano is the island’s hallmark. On the map of Tenerife, you can see that this attraction occupies the main part of it. Teide National Park, which stretches around the mountain, is the largest natural park in the Canary Islands. Every year, thousands of tourists come to see this reserve and conquer the highest peak in Spain.
You can learn more about this attraction in another article.
Cave of the Winds
In the underground part of Tenerife, there are many caves and galleries formed as a result of the movement of volcanic lava. The Wind Cave is a special attraction of this kind, because it is the fifth longest volcanic cave in the world and the first in Europe (administratively, the Canary Islands are classified as Europe). It is a three-level underground complex with a total length of 18 km with terraces and lava lakes.
Cueva del Viento is one of those attractions in Tenerife that you can only see as part of sightseeing groups. To get on the tour, you need to buy an online ticket on the official website.
Please drive to the Cueva del Viento office 15-20 minutes before the time indicated on the ticket. First, tourists are instructed, then given a lecture on geology, and then taken to the entrance to the cave – from the office it is 2 km.
The entire tour takes just over 2 hours. And tourists are directly in the cave for about 45 minutes and during this time, listening to the guide’s comments, they walk no more than 300 meters. Guided tours are conducted in Spanish, English and German, and it should be noted right away: without a good knowledge of the language, the tour loses its meaning and becomes boring.Practical information
Cueva del Viento is located at 51 Camino los Piquetes, 38438 Icod de los Vinos, Tenerife, Spain.

Anaga Mountains
To the question “Where to go and what to see in Tenerife?” many tourists answer that you should definitely get acquainted with such a natural attraction as Las Montanas de Anaga.
The Anaga Mountain Range, also known as the Anaga Rural Park Biosphere Reserve, occupies the northeastern tip of the island. This area with amazing scenery is an ideal place for hiking, jogging and picnics in the picturesque relict forest, swimming in the ocean on one of the many beaches. Everything is interesting here, even the road: you will have to go along difficult, but very picturesque serpentines.
The point from which all routes start is the infocenter, located at an altitude of about 1000 meters in Mirador Cruz Del Carmen. In the infocenter (open until 16:00), you can get a free map with the routes marked on it, which also indicates their complexity and time of passage. If you have a map of Tenerife with attractions in Russian (available at the end of the article), then it is not difficult to plan routes for walking tours of the park. Although there are no special problems with orientation as it is, because markings and pointers are installed everywhere.
Most of the routes are not circular, but diverge in different directions from the information center. For those who came to the infocenter by public transport, they are very convenient: you do not need to go back, you can take a bus or taxi at the end point of the trip and go further. Those who arrived by car will have to return to the starting point.
On the highway to the information center, there are many viewing platforms that offer very beautiful views. One of them, the most popular, Mirador de Jardina, has coordinates: 28.523961, -16.288211.
Devil’s Pass
On the territory of the Barranco del Infierno Nature Park, there is a gorge known by various names: Devil’s Gorge, Hell’s Canyon, Infierno Gorge.
The appearance of this natural attraction does not correspond at all to such a terrifying name. Picturesque rocks covered with bright tropical plants seem to cling to the clouds. There are many natural caves, there is a small pretty stream, which is called a waterfall.
Until 2007, everyone was free to see Hell’s Canyon at any time. But due to a large number of accidents, it was closed to the public. In 2012, after the construction of a tourist route was completed, the canyon was opened to tourists. The 6.5 km long hiking trail is not difficult, very well organized and safe, suitable even for children aged 6-7 years.
You need to know that you can see this attraction of Tenenrife now only for a fee and as part of an organized group. You must have comfortable closed shoes with solid soles – they will not let you into another one, and you will have to rent it on the spot.Practical information
The Infierno Gorge Entrance is a 10-minute drive from Playa de Las Americas, located at Calle Molinos 46, Adeje Santa Cruz, 38670, Tenerife, Spain.
You can view the attraction:
- from June 1 to September 15 – from 8: 30 to 16: 00;
- from September 16 to May 31 – from 8: 30 to 17: 00.
Tickets cost € 8.50 for adults and €4.25 for children aged 5-12. Children under 5 years of age are not allowed in the canyon.
Since a maximum of 300 people are allowed in the gorge every day, it is better to book tickets in advance on the official website https://www.barrancodelinfierno.es/. You must have a passport with you.
Los Gigantes Rocks
Another natural attraction of Tenerife is located in its western part. These are gray rocks of volcanic origin, known as Los Gigantes.
The 300 – 600-meter-high cliffs are completely inaccessible, with only one official safe route laid out along them. The route is quite long and takes up to 6 hours to complete.
Learn more about all the features of the trip to the cliffs of Los Gigantes in this article.
Maska Gorge
One of the most beautiful sights of Tenerife is rightly recognized as the deepest gorge on the island of Masca. Every year, many travelers come here to see the picturesque gorge, and at the same time test their strength on a fascinating and difficult route.
If you look at the map of Tenerife in Russian (at the end of the article), you will see that this attraction is located in such a way that it can only be entered from the village of Masca.
All details about the trip can be found on this page.
El Caleton natural pools
In the town of Garachico, on the north coast of Tenerife, there is a unique attraction of the Canary Islands: Piscinas Naturales El Caletón.
The El Caleton basins were formed during a volcanic eruption when red-hot lava met cold ocean waters. At each high tide, the niches are filled with clear water and you can swim there. Not so long ago, convenient descents were built to the pools of El Caleton.
By the way, photos of this attraction in Tenerife are especially beautiful and original.
El Caleton Reservoirs address: Avenida Tome Cano 5, 38450 Garachico, Tenerife, Spain.
Loro Park
Loro Parque is one of those attractions in Tenerife that is better to see on your own, and not as part of sightseeing groups.
“Loro” means “parrot” in Spanish, and it really is home to one of the largest collections of parrots in the world. In addition, gorillas, penguins, dolphins, fur seals, and sharks live here. Loro Parque also hosts entertainment shows that will be interesting for both children and parents to watch.
The park is described in more detail in this article.
Jungle-Las Aguilas Park
Jungle Park, also known as Eagle Park – is one of the places in Tenerife that can be attributed to both attractions and entertainment.
Las Aquilas Jungle Park, which occupies 75,000 m2 – is a real jungle created by man. Here you can see a lot of interesting things: hundreds of thousands of plants from America (South and North) and Africa grow, there are beautiful waterfalls with lagoons, pedestrian paths with tunnels and suspension bridges are equipped.
The territory of the park has become a full-fledged home for a wide variety of animals: tigers, hippos, sea lions, penguins, crocodiles, lemurs, turtles. It is doubly interesting to see the animals, because they live here in their natural environment, without cages and enclosures.
Eagles, which gave the park its second name, are tame here: they hover in the air above the audience, showing a variety of tricks. Smaller birds also perform: falcons, owls, and parrots.Practical information
Jungle Park is located near the resort of Las Americas, at the address: Urbanizacion Las Aguilas del Teide s / n, 38640, Arona, Tenerife, Spain.
The park is open daily from 10: 00 to 17: 30 (entrance until 16:30).

Siam Park Water Park
Siam Park entertainment complex in the southern part of Tenerife is a well-known tourist attraction in the Canary Islands and all of Spain.
This water park is interesting, even if you just walk around it and see, because it is made in the original Thai style. In addition, it is the most visited water park in Spain, and on its territory there is a huge swimming pool, the artificial waves of which are officially recognized as the highest in the world.
On the site, you can view a separate article entirely devoted to this attraction.
Lago Martianes Entertainment Complex
In the northern part of Tenerife, although beautiful, beaches are not very comfortable for swimming, because there are always big waves.
In the city of Puerto de la Cruz, to create conditions for a relaxing holiday, the Lago Martiánez complex was built right on the Atlantic Ocean. Lago Martianes is a system of about 100,000 m2 of artificial islands with luxury beaches and ocean-water pools. Swimming pools are usually a little cooler than in the ocean, so swimming is not very comfortable. There are also fountains in the pools, but they are not always turned on. There are restaurants and casinos on the islands, as well as view terraces from which you can view the picturesque surroundings.
For those tourists who will be in Puerto de la Cruz in Tenerife, you can see the Lago Martiánez swimming pool complex – this is an interesting and noteworthy attraction. But to go specifically from the other side of the island to swim in these pools, of course, is not worth it.Practical information
Martianes Swimming Pools are located at 38400 Avenida de Colon, Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife, Spain.
Official website: http://ociocostamartianez.com/en/home/.
The park is open daily:
- July-September from 10: 00 to 19: 30;
- in October-June from 10: 00 to 18: 00.
An adult ticket costs 5.50 €, a child ticket costs 2.50 €. Rental of sun beds is already included in this price, and you need to pay an additional €2.50 for umbrellas. The ticket is a one-time ticket, meaning that if you leave the territory even for 5 minutes, you will only be able to re-enter with a new ticket.
Tenerife Auditorium
A prominent landmark in the city of Santa Cruz is the Tenerife Auditorium, built in 2003.
The building, which stands on the very shore of the Atlantic Ocean, is a picturesque example of modern architecture. Its shape is similar to the Sydney Opera House, and its airiness, lightness and unusual proportions are very impressive.
The main hall (opera, symphony) is designed for 1,616 spectators, the chamber hall – for 422. The Auditorio de Tenerife also has a restaurant and cafe, and outside there are terraces from which you can view the Atlantic.
You can not just admire this structure from the outside, but also visit the concerts that take place in it. You can view the entire repertoire of the Tenerife Auditorium, with names, photos, and descriptions, on the attractions ‘ website: https://auditoriodetenerife.com/es/.
Tenerife Auditorium address: Avenida la Constitucion 1, 38003 Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Tenerife, Spain.
Pyramids of Guimar
In the north-east of Tenerife, in the city of Guimar, there is the most controversial attraction of the island – the stepped pyramids of Guimar. Until now, scientists can not agree on when they were founded, what method they were created by, and what their purpose is.
In 1998, the famous archaeologist Thor Heyerdahl created a large-scale Ethnographic Park, using this unique architectural complex of 6 geometric structures as its basis.
You can view a detailed description and photo of this Tenerife attraction here.
Teide Observatory
Chile, Hawaii and the Canary Islands are the best places on Earth to observe the Southern Hemisphere sky. The world’s largest observatory is located in Teide Park, at an altitude of 2390 m. Given such a favorable geographical location, it is not surprising that it is here that the best European telescopes are collected. On the territory of the Teide Observatory (50 hectares), solar and night telescopes belonging to 60 institutions from 19 countries are installed.
The building itself, snow-white and majestic, looks very impressive, especially against the background of the surrounding desert landscape. It feels like another planet.
Teide Observatory is one of Tenerife’s must-see attractions. This can only be done as part of guided tours organized by the observatory staff. They introduce visitors to various telescopes, tell them about the principle of their operation.
Guided tours are available in different languages and on different days of the week. You can view the schedule, choose a suitable option and immediately buy a ticket for 21 € on the official website: https://www.volcanoteide.com/es/volcano_teide/estrellas/visita_guiada_al_observatorio.
