Price is not at the expense of quality: the best cities in Europe for a budget holiday this summer are named

The Latvian capital Riga topped the rating.

Against the background of a surge in over-active tourism, which will inevitably lead to an increase in prices for holidays in the most popular destinations, vacationers are increasingly trying to look for budget alternatives. However, not always cheap means high-quality.

A recent study by the UK’s Post Office examined 38 cities in Europe to determine the top ten places where you can have a good rest without spending all the money in the world.

When compiling the rating, 12 main indicators were taken into account, including the cost of two nights ‘ stay in a three-star hotel for two people, a three-course dinner for two with homemade wine, a cup of coffee, a bottle of beer, a can of Coca-Cola or Pepsi, a glass of wine, transportation costs (transfer from the airport by bus or train, etc. travel card for 48 hours), as well as the cost of a sightseeing bus tour of the city, visiting the main tourist attraction, the main museum and the main art gallery, Euronews Travel quotes.

Riga, the capital of Latvia, topped the rating, where a wonderful weekend for two can be spent for 300 euros. This is the first time that the city has taken such a high position in the rating, and over the past year it has risen by six positions at once. This is due to the fact that prices in Riga decreased by 15% year-on-year compared to the second-ranked city.

Meanwhile, the second place went to Riga’s neighbor-the Lithuanian capital Vilnius, where the average cost of a city break increased by 7.5%, to 302 euros.

Completing the top three was the Polish capital of Warsaw, which rose from 10th to third place over the year, showing a 13.2% drop in prices to 329 euros, mainly due to a 46-euro drop in the cost of accommodation (155 euros for two nights compared to 201 euros a year earlier).

Overall, seven cities in Eastern Europe are in the top ten.
