“Much better than Rome or Venice”: traveler named his favorite city in Italy

Known as the gastronomic capital of the country, this cultural city is also the birthplace of mortadella.

One traveler who visited nine cities in Italy named his favorite, in particular, because it still remains “out of sight”. This is reported by the Daily Express.

According to him, the uniqueness of this little-visited city only enhances the impression of the delicious cuisine and landscapes that are so popular among tourists. The most popular tourist destinations include Rome, Florence, Venice, Milan, Pisa, Verona, Siena, Lucca, and Bergamo, but many Italian enthusiasts argue that no other city, despite its rich history and ancient architecture, can compare to Bologna.

It is noted that Bologna, a city of terracotta houses, inexpensive travel, and excellent cuisine, is famous for its bolognese stew.

Known as the gastronomic capital of the country, this cultural city is also the birthplace of mortadella, an emulsified sausage that looks almost festive. Tourists who prefer authentic and culturally immersive experiences should add Bologna to their list for a relaxing and magical journey filled with drinking, eating, and sightseeing.

Reviewer Adam shared that he couldn’t imagine staying in any other Italian city, “especially when Italian trains are so cheap and convenient.” Florence is nearby, and Venice is just an hour and 10 minutes away.

Trip Advisor has rated several accommodation options with 4.6/5 stars. Savhotel Fiera Bologna has received over 3,200 reviews, one of which was recently published on October 27, 2025. The review states:

“The check-in was great, and Elissa was wonderful and incredibly friendly. She organized our check-in and gave us great recommendations for Bologna. The hotel’s location is excellent, and the internet is great. The breakfast was very good.”

Visitors have praised the Santuario di Madonna di San Luca, which offers stunning views and is a must-visit destination.

One of the tourists said that the church, located on the hills of Bologna, was quite easy to reach, explaining that the walk was “not too tiring” and that they had a peaceful view of the “monumental Certosa Cemetery.”

“It’s a beautiful baroque basilica, beautifully preserved both inside and out. You can get there by taxi or train, which departs from Piazza Maggiore, but the most exciting experience is to walk about 4 km, climbing about 500 steps under the world’s longest porch, which starts in the center of the city – it’s a must-see,” wrote another commenter.
