Looking for Affordable Travel? Spain’s Cozy Resort Tops Europe’s List

The city has 112 free attractions, including 10 free museums.

When it comes to Europe, it is almost impossible to choose just one place to visit, as almost every city has its own unique look and atmosphere. However, most of the places that are attractive to tourists will also hit your wallet very hard, writes Travel Off Path.

However, visiting Europe doesn’t have to be expensive – you just need to choose the right destination. So, the Spanish city of Granada, with its rich history and beautiful architecture, was named the best budget destination for travelers in Europe, according to the rating of the website for travelers Omio.

Free places to visit

One of the main reasons Granada is so highly rated is because of the abundance of free things to see and do in the city. So, in Granada, there are 112 free attractions, including 10 free museums.

The best of these is the Federico Garcia Lorca Center, which regularly hosts events and exhibitions. The center also houses a permanent exhibition of the poet Federico Garcia Lorca.

The most important thing to do in the city is to visit the iconic Alhambra Fortress. This palace and fortress complex is built in the Islamic style and is the best and most famous example of Islamic architecture not only in Spain, but also in Western Europe. Entrance to the main palace complex of the Alhambra is paid (prices start from 10.60 euros per person), but it is completely worth it to spend this money. At the same time, you can visit the Charles V Palace, which houses the Alhambra Museum and the Alhambra Complex Museum of Fine Arts, completely free of charge.

Incredible architecture

The architecture in Granada is so outstanding that it should be considered a separate attraction. Granada was the last city to be recaptured by Catholic monarchs in 1492, so many of the buildings here have a distinct Moorish influence.

Special attention should be paid to the Cathedral of Granada, as well as the monastery of San Jeronimo – the first Christian monastery built after the conquest by Catholic monarchs (entrance fee, 6 euros)

Granada is not the most convenient city for walking in Europe. However, the city also has one of the most affordable sightseeing buses in Western Europe – the ticket price is just 6 euros, and you can get in and out on the route between all the main attractions of the city.

Granada’s nightlife scene

Granada has a very active (and affordable) nightlife. According to Omio, there are as many as 86 bars and nightclubs in the city where you can buy beer for as little as $2.

What’s more, you don’t need to fork out for a meal before heading to the bar, as Granada has a long tradition of offering free appetizers (such as squid, shrimp, or ham) with every drink you order. In most bars, a plate will simply be brought to your table along with your drinks, in other bars, there will be a board on the bar counter and you will be able to choose from several options that change frequently on a regular basis.
