“I’ll never forget”: Tourists name the most delicious dishes they’ve tried abroad

It’s interesting that it’s not just exotic dishes that leave lasting memories; sometimes it’s something familiar but perfectly prepared.

One of the most enjoyable parts of any trip abroad is trying the local cuisine. Users of the popular forum Reddit shared their experiences on this topic and told us what was the most delicious thing they had tried abroad. Interestingly, it wasn’t always something incredibly exotic.

“I will never forget the baguette I ate in France with just butter. That’s all. I thought it was the best thing I’ve ever tried. Looking back, I realize that, apparently, it was exactly the right time and place for the perfect dish, and it was just a very delicious baguette, ” wrote one user.

Others agreed with him: baguettes in France are really delicious, although they don’t qualify as exotic.

Another user praised the Thai noodle soup known as Khao soi. This sparked a flurry of comments, with people reminiscing about their experiences with Thai cuisine.

“There’s so much delicious food in Thailand, but the surprise I didn’t expect was the mango and sticky rice dessert served at Dairy Queen. It was surprisingly delicious,” one person wrote.

One woman wrote that in her many years of travel, the dish she most remembered was from the island of Haida Gwaii off the west coast of Canada. It was crab cooked in seawater, served with a local special sourdough and fresh butter from the farm.

“I worked for a Japanese company. The CEO said: “I heard that you like Japanese food, I’ll show you Japanese food.” Rented a whole restaurant for us 20 people. Approximately 30 dishes, all in small portions. One by one, the most delicious dishes I’ve ever tasted. Sushi, crab legs, tempura, mushroom soup-it was perfect, ” recalls another author.

Another person listed a whole list of delicious things that he remembered:

  • Tonnarelli cacio e pepe (a type of pasta with grated cheese) in Rome;
  • Bun cha (fried pork with noodles) in Hanoi, Vietnam;
  • a feast of hot and cold Turkish dishes in Istanbul;
  • pad thai (fried noodles with meat or seafood) in Bangkok, Thailand;
  • sour labneh yogurt cheese in Amman, Jordan;
  • kvevri red wine in Tbilisi;
  • goat cheese and peach salad at a cheese factory in Essaouira, Morocco;
  • Hot steamed udon noodles at a restaurant in Kyoto, Japan.
