Holidays in Baska Voda, Croatia-what you need to know

Baska Voda (Croatia) is one of the most famous resorts in the Adriatic. It attracts tourists with its beautiful nature, good weather and friendly locals. If you have long been fascinated by the photos of Baska Voda, then it’s time to turn your dream into reality and make a (albeit virtual) trip to this colorful place.

General information

Baska Voda - a community in Croatia

Baska Voda is one of the most cozy resorts of the Makarska Riviera and the Croatian Adriatic in general. The first mention of a settlement with this name dates back to 1688, while excavations have shown that this territory was inhabited as early as 4 millennia BC. Earlier, a fishing village was located on this site, which quickly developed into a village with a permanent population of 3 thousand people. This is a place with a very rich history: archaeological finds indicate that people lived here already during the Roman Empire.

The first hotel in the village was built in the 30s of the XX century. Since then, tourism has started to develop in Baska Voda. And over the past 2 decades, the resort has become one of the most popular in the Croatian region of Dalmatia.

What should I see?

There are not so many attractions in the village of Baska-Voda, but they are quite interesting.

St. Nicholas Church

St. Nicholas Church, Baska Voda

The Church of St. Nicholas, perhaps, is the main attraction of a small resort. It was built in the late 19th century, and the rectory and bell tower were added less than 30 years ago. A distinctive feature of the temple is an unusual combination of Baroque and Gothic: the building itself is made in the Baroque style, but the details (stained glass windows, sculptures) belong to the Gothic.

By the way, the church is named after St. Nicholas for a reason – it is he who is the spiritual defender of Baska Voda and Croatia as a whole, and also protects all tourists and navigators from adversity on the way.

  • Opening hours: 7.00-19.00 (in summer) and 9.00-17.00 (in winter).
  • Location: Obala Sv. Nikole 73, Baska Voda 21320, Croatia.

Continuation of the church of St. Nicholas is a monument dedicated to the saint. The venerable elder has been standing on the snow-white embankment of the town for more than 20 years and shows the way to travelers in the direction of the sea. Perhaps this particular attraction is most often seen in the photo of the town of Baska Voda in Croatia.

Where to find: main pier.

Promenade

Baska Embankment-Voda

The embankment is a business card of any city in Croatia, including Baska Voda. Massive palm trees, snow-white boats and white bricks – perhaps this is how you can describe the embankment of this town. There are also many benches and ice cream tents. The huge number of flower beds is also impressive – there are even more of them on the embankment than in the city center.

Locals like to walk along the embankment in the evening, when the sun is already setting, and the sea is illuminated by yellow lanterns. But there are always a lot of fishermen and tourists here.

Baska-Voda Beaches

Just like any other resort, Baska Voda (Croatia) has several beautiful beaches. The best ones are described below.

Nikolina (Nikolina)

Nikolina is one of the best not only in Baska Voda, but also in the whole of Croatia. It is located in the very center of the resort, so there are always a lot of locals and tourists here. But despite the crowds, this is a very cozy place, surrounded by a pine forest, which creates artificial shade and allows you to hide from prying eyes. It is a pebble beach and the water is clear, which is confirmed by the Blue Flag.

Nikolina Beach

As for the infrastructure, on the beach you can rent umbrellas for 30 and sun beds for 40 kuna, there is also a shower (2 kuna) and a toilet. For those who do not like to just lie in the sun, the following activities will be interesting: riding a motor boat or catamaran, playing volleyball on one of the playgrounds. There is also a children’s play area with trampolines and several rides. There are several inexpensive cafes and restaurants near the beach.

Location: city center.

Ikovac beach

Ikovach is located in the north of the village of Baska Voda, near the Dubravka Hotel. The entrance to the sea is smooth, covered with small pebbles. The water is clear, there are no sea urchins, and the beach itself is small and cozy. Mostly tourists with children rest here, and there are very few Croats (they prefer Nikolina).

On the beach of Ikovac there is a toilet, a shower stall and several cafes. Umbrellas and sun beds are available for rent.

Oseka beach

Osijek Beach

Osijeka is the most unusual beach in Croatia. Both nudists and everyone else can relax here. It is located on the outskirts of the town, right behind the bar “Oseka” (20 minutes from the embankment on foot). Due to the relatively small number of people, the water here is very clean, and you can always find a free place. The entrance to the sea is gentle, and the surface is made of small pebbles. Due to the fact that the beach is somewhat far from the center, you can meet sea urchins here.

On the beach there is a shower stall. There are many cafes and bars nearby.

Wild or ”dog” beach

Wild or” dog " beach

Wild beach is located in the southern part of Baska Voda resort. The entrance to the water is steep and deeper than on other beaches of the village. The water is very clean, and there is practically no debris on the pebble surface.

From the infrastructure, it is worth noting a toilet, shower and a small bar. The Apollo Scuba Diving Club is also located nearby.

Location: in the south of Baska-Voda.
