These are great vacation spots in Turkey, Greece, and Portugal, and they’re not for the price of the world.
Those who did not have time to relax by the sea in the summer, or have already managed to get tired of the autumn cold, are looking for opportunities to enjoy the sea and the sun in the middle of autumn.
Travel experts Which? Travel have named three European beach destinations where you can still enjoy the sea in October.
1. Dalaman, Turkey– maximum temperature in October is +26°C.
Although this season vacation in Turkey has significantly increased in price, local resorts are still a great and quite affordable option for those who want to enjoy the October sun.
Dalaman has much more to offer tourists than just resorts. Here you can relax in soothing mud baths, watch turtles during river excursions, snorkel in the blue lagoons, visit food markets, ancient ruins and historical abandoned villages, and enjoy the local gastronomic wonders.
2. Athens, Greece – maximum temperature in October is +22°C.
The Greek capital is often ignored by tourists heading to the islands, but it is actually an incredible city in its own right. Thousands of years of architectural wonders are layered on top of each other, from the Acropolis to the Byzantine monasteries, from classical to neoclassical.
The October temperature is more suitable for exploring the city than the hot summer, and in the morning, tourists can enjoy attractions such as the Parthenon almost alone.
At the same time, the islands of Aegina and Angistri are only a 30-minute boat ride from the Athenian port of Piraeus. You can also swim in the sea at the beaches of the Apollo coast.
3. Madeira, Portugal – maximum temperature in October is +21°C.
By October, the peak tourist season in Madeira is coming to an end, leaving more time to explore this floral Portuguese archipelago. This popular destination is also one of the cheapest.
Due to its subtropical climate, Madeira is located off the coast of northeastern Africa, where it is warm year-round and relatively dry. This makes October an ideal month to explore the rocky beaches, hike through the forests, or enjoy a glass of the famous Madeiran fortified wine as the sun sets.
The water is also perfect for swimming, as the temperature remains at +23°C, which is warmer than in the Algarve (approximately +19°C in October).
