Another” feature ” of this place is the main fiesta of Spain, called the feast of St. John the Baptist. St. Anna and St. Joachim and attracts an incredible number of participants (at least 500 thousand). The Fiesta celebration lasts for 4 days and falls on the third or fourth week of July. During this period, many fireworks are released into the air, delighting not only children, but also adults. The final show takes place on Sunday evening.
An interesting fact! Since the city of Blanes is the first settlement located in the western part of the coast, it is often referred to as the “Gateway to the Costa Brava.” In honor of this, a special symbol has been installed on one of the city’s beaches – a metal structure resembling an inverted V.

Marimutra Botanical Garden
The botanical garden in Blanes (Spain), which was designed by the German industrialist Karl Faust in the 1920s, is one of the most famous arboretums in Europe. Gothic Fountain
The octagonal fountain, created in the first half of the 15th century at the request of the woolen manufacturers’ guild, is a striking example of traditional Spanish Gothic architecture. Originally, this gloomy medieval structure, consisting of three levels and adorned with gargoyle images, stood in the central city square. However, it seemed to clash with the surrounding environment, leading the local authorities to relocate it to the Rue de l’Aumple.
Plaza de Espana and Dintre Street

The main features of this beach are large light sand, among which only occasionally there are pebbles, a convenient entrance to the sea and a picturesque promenade running along the entire coastline. The infrastructure of Playa de S’Abanell is quite developed – there are showers, a toilet (closed at 21:00), paid sunbeds with umbrellas, professional lifeguards work. In addition, there are many open cafes serving delicious butifarra (Catalan sausage), and several shops. Active recreation is represented by volleyball, surfing, sailing and water slides. For children there are equipped playgrounds. If desired, you can rent a small pleasure boat.
San Francesc
A small family beach is located just under 200 m. It is situated in a quiet bay, the hilly shores of which are covered with a dense pine forest. The covering is coarse sand, although small rocky formations are sometimes found. The sea here is warm, transparent and very clean. The shallow water line is wide enough, and the entry into the water is gentle.
Along the entire coastline, there is a special paved path with restaurants, food stalls, and designated seating areas. Additionally, there is a toilet, shower, parking lot, catamaran rental service, umbrellas, and sun loungers.
Cala de Sant Francesc is a favorite destination not only for families with young children, but also for diving, snorkeling, and other underwater sports enthusiasts. It is recommended to bring your own diving gear, as it is more expensive to purchase it locally. If you wish to capture stunning panoramic views, you can climb the hill using the narrow path located at the southern end of the beach.
Blanes
The central beach of Blanes, which is shaped like a crescent, stretches from the river port to the Sa Palomera cliff. It is approximately 600 meters long and can accommodate a large number of visitors. What sets this beach apart is its clear sea and large, light yellow sand that does not stick to shoes or clothing.
The seaport is located near Platja de Blanes. There are many cafes, eateries, restaurants, and small shops along the main promenade. Professional lifeguards are responsible for the safety of tourists. There are frequent showers, but only one toilet. Umbrellas and sun loungers can be rented for 5-6€. It is also worth noting that the city highway is located a few meters away from the beach, so children should be watched carefully. Most importantly, the beach is close to the old part of the city, which is known for its unique historical landmarks.
Accommodation
Blanes (Costa Brava, Spain) offers many accommodation options, including both budget hostels and expensive hotels equipped with a swimming pool, fitness centers, spas, free parking and other amenities. It should also be noted that housing in the city is located not only on the first line, but also at a fairly large distance from the sea (you can also find good options there). But with the Russian-speaking staff in Blanes did not work out, so we advise you to arm yourself with an interpreter.
As for prices, the cost of a double room in a 3* hotel starts from 60€ per day, while accommodation in a 4* hotel will cost at least 100-120€. Prices are for the summer period.
Food
When you arrive in Blanes, you won’t go hungry, as there are over 200 bars, cafes, and restaurants offering a wide variety of dishes to suit every taste and budget. Most of these establishments are located along the city’s waterfront and in the Paseo de Dintre square. They are frequented not only by tourists but also by the local population. Additionally, the city has a seaport where you can purchase fresh seafood at an auction.
In terms of prices, a simple breakfast consisting of coffee with a croissant, a sandwich, or churros will cost around 2€, while a more substantial option (such as a continental breakfast) will set you back at least 8€.
Menu del dia, as a complex business lunch (first, second, coffee and dessert) is called in Spain, costs from 9 to 25€, depending on the level of the institution and its location. And here dinner can be safely called the most expensive meal. The cost of the most modest option (1 dish + 1 glass of wine) is at least 12€, but as you yourself understand, few people limit themselves to them.
If you don’t want to spend money on a cafe, there are five options for you:
- Stay in an apartment with a private kitchen;
- Buy ready-made meals in stores and supermarkets;
- Eat at fast food (tapas) or inexpensive beach eateries;
- Look for a budget-friendly place located away from tourist streets and major city attractions;
- Order one dish for two – the portions are very large.
Most of the Spanish restaurants come off closer to lunch, and some-even after a siesta. At the same time, the last one can last from 14: 00 to 16: 00-17: 00 or from 16: 00 to 20:00-21: 00. But in the morning, most establishments are closed.

Weather and climate – when is the best time to visit?
The city of Blanes (Spain) has a moderate climate, which is suitable not only for families with children, but also for older people. The high season, characterized by plenty of clear sunny days, lasts from June to September. During this period, the air temperature ranges from +27°C to +28°C, and the Mediterranean Sea warms up to a pleasant +24°C to +25°C. July and August are the hottest and most crowded months.
During the low season, which is not ideal for beach vacations but is perfect for exploring the city’s attractions, the temperature remains around +13°C to +14°C. However, from the second half of October, it starts to rain in Blanes, and the sky is often covered by thick clouds, but this does not diminish the beauty of the city.

Option 1 – From El Prat International Airport (distance – 87 km):
- Taxis are fast, convenient, and reliable. Most importantly, you can order a taxi not only upon arrival, but also in advance (via the internet from your home). To do this, simply provide the operator with your flight details. Taxi services are available 24/7. To find a driver in the airport hall, look for a sign with your name and surname;
- A car is the best way to travel between cities on your own. You can also book a car in advance. In this case, the car will be waiting at the terminal;
- Bus No. 603 and 614 are the only types of public transport that provide direct connections between the airport and Blanes. The buses depart from Terminal T1 (platforms 10, 11, and 12), and after approximately 15 minutes, they arrive at Terminal T2 and continue to the main bus station in Blanes (Blanes Estació D’Autobusos). The journey takes approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes. The buses operate daily, but the schedule may vary depending on the season and day of the week (it is recommended to check the official website for the most up-to-date information).
Option 2 – From the center of Barcelona (distance – 70 km):
- The Barcelona-Blanes regional train (line R1) connects Estació de Barcelona-Sants, Barcelona’s main train station, with Blanes station, located approximately 2 kilometers from the city. The train runs daily at half-hour intervals (from 05:46 to 22:54). The ticket price is 6.30 euros. The journey time is approximately 1.5 hours.
- Taxis are the easiest, but rather expensive, way to get around. Such a trip will cost between 55 and 100€, depending on the car class (Economy, Business, Comfort or Suite). When planning a trip, keep in mind that taxis in Spain arrive on time;
- A rented car is only available with a deposit (600-800€), which is blocked on the customer’s credit or debit card. There are two routes to take: a short route and a long route. The short route follows the Via C-32 highway and takes less than an hour. The long route follows the coast of the Balearic Sea and takes at least 1.5 hours. Car rentals in Spain start at 9€. The cost of gasoline used for the journey is approximately 8€. You will also need to pay 5€ for the toll road.
- Buses 603 and 614 depart from the airport, pass through the city center, and head to Blanes. The ticket costs 6.70€. The journey takes a little less than an hour. You can board these buses not only at Estació del Nord, Barcelona’s North Bus Station, but also at Ronda St. Pere.
