Bay of Eagles Glamping: A Unique Nature Retreat in the Dominican Republic

I will tell you about very cool glamping in the Bay of Eagles in the Dominican Republic. Here you can find yourself only in one case: if you came to the Bay of Eagles on an insanely beautiful beach. Option: we were driving by and stopped by, it doesn’t work here. This is a very secluded and remote place from civilization. But everyone who gets here won’t regret it.

Glamping in the Bay of Eagles: general information.

What is the Bay of Eagles, all the useful information, and why tourists go to such a remote place for the sake of one beach, read the link. But in short:

  • This is a national park under state protection
  • Located geographically in the most remote part of the Dominican Republic 15 km from the border with Haiti
  • There are no hotels or major buildings in the Bay of Eagles.
  • There is a gorgeous beach and an insanely beautiful Caribbean Sea. Aquamarine colors will make you dizzy.

Now let’s talk about Glamping. These are current trends in the world of tourism. This direction is becoming more and more popular every year.

Useful to know:Glamping is a combination of the words glamour and camping. This is a new destination in tourism when you live in an ordinary tourist tent, but with comfort.

This is what glamping in the Bay of Eagles looks like.

If we talk about Glamping in the Bay of Eagles, which is called EcoLodge Cueva De Las Aguilas, then:

  • It is located on the first line. Your tent will stand right on the beach, 10-15 m from the edge of the Caribbean Sea
  • In the tent you can stand at full height
  • There will be a full-fledged normal bed
  • The tent has electricity, a couple of outlets, a nightstand, and even a fan if it’s hot

Here is such a bed will be right in the tent. And two fans.

This is a great option for those who do not like camping and sleeping in a sleeping bag on the ground. Everything here is very modest, but like in an apartment. Well, for those who came to the Bay of Eagles with an overnight stay, there are few other options. There are no hotels here!

How to get there?

In the article about the bay itself, I described this in detail (the link was above). I’ll tell you briefly here. Taxis, public transport, and other types of public transport simply don’t exist. No, of course, you can get there, but it will be several transfers and a whole day on the road. And the final 15 km from the city of Pedernales, you need to go in any case only by taxi. No other transport goes here.

It is important to understand:Therefore, the most optimal, and the most logical, and the only option is to rent a car.

You will reach the end of the road, or rather the entrance to the national Park and the Bay of Eagles, and then cars are not allowed. Here you are at the EcoLodge Cueva De Las Aguilas glamping experience. Glamping is located very conveniently and as close as possible to the famous beach. Parking for glamping and park visitors is the same.

What is Glamping: living conditions, restaurant

Glamping itself is located right on the beach of the Caribbean Sea. It consists of a reception and a restaurant under one roof. This building at least somehow resembles a capital structure. There are several showers and toilets located in different parts of the campsite, and about 40 tents to stay in.

What is inside the tents, I have already written. The only thing I would like to note is that there are tents with increased comfort, with their own mini-recreation area, these are chairs with a view of the sea under the shade of trees. There are also tents with single beds, and some with kingsize beds.

There is an excellent glamping restaurant on site. It has great food and drinks. There’s always an ice-cold beer. And from the main dishes I recommend: octopus, lobster, tuna fillet and other sea fish. For those who do not like seafood, there are a huge number of chicken dishes.

Camping dinners in the south of the Dominican Republic
There was no octopus on this day, we ordered fillet of sea bass. This plate will cost about$15. Not Cheap.

Important to know:The restaurant in glamping is quite expensive by the standards of the rest of the Dominican Republic. Very expensive, I’d say. Dinner for two is a main course for everyone and a glass of beer, for example, will cost you 30-40 dollars. Please note that the prices do not include taxes and service fees. And how much is it, what will be the total amount, read the article: cafes and restaurants in the Dominican Republic.

The restaurant looks like this. Pay attention to the view from the restaurant.

Glamping in the Bay of Eagles: interesting features

I also want to draw your attention to the fact that this is one of the few places in the Dominican Republic where you can watch the sunset. Here the sun sets directly into the sea. There are not many beaches in this country like this. Usually, most beaches face either north to the ocean or south to the Caribbean or east. There aren’t many beaches that face west in the Dominican Republic, and this is one of them.

And there are also Red Book pelicans living in the Bay of Eagles. You can watch them directly from your tent or at a restaurant table. The uniqueness of these pelicans is that they are the only ones in the world that catch fish not by classical diving under water. Namely, they dive from a height for their prey. The spectacle is simply great.

Therefore, a perfect sunset in the Caribbean Sea and a rare view of pelicans will be a pleasant addition to such a cool accommodation option.

Where to book

Everything is simple here. You can find this glamping experience on the world’s most popular tourist rental site:

Glamping EcoLodge Cueva de Las Aguilas

Although it seems like a tent, but the prices are not completely humane. Prices for a tent are from$ 50 to $ 200 for a couple per day. There are a couple of important points:

  • In my opinion, there is no point in overpaying for the first line. We lived on the first line 10 meters from the water’s edge. The second line is 20m away. All the same, everyone is on the beach all day, and there is no big profit in the first line.

How do you like the view from the tent?
  • Please note that there is accommodation with and without breakfast. Think for yourself, but there are two opposite points here:
    • The disadvantage of breakfast: it is not a buffet, and the choice of dishes is very modest. Namely: boiled banana with onions, manga with onions, omelette with onions, fried salami WITHOUT onions and juice. And all this is put on your plate by the chef. You won’t be able to go twice. And what is manga (not mango), read the link about the national cuisine of the Dominican Republic.
    • From the pros: it’s like there’s nowhere else to eat. This is the only place. There is also a restaurant in a nearby campsite.
Glamping tomorrow with manga
Here is a glamping breakfast in the Bay of Eagles. Bananas with bananas and onions.

And it turns out: you need to eat, but there are no places to eat. That’s probably why you should agree to breakfast. Yes, solid bananas, yes, there is no variety, yes, you will not be able to have a full breakfast. But without breakfast is also sad.

Travel tips and Tricks

Tips are always good. They can help you save either time or money, and often both.

  • Buy all your food with you, especially snacks and snacks, and not perish. Buy alcohol in the form of rum in advance, too.
    • The nearest shop is 15 km away in Pedernales, and it is a very small Calmado. And go by car to it in 40 minutes. Because the road is just awful.
    • The prices in the restaurant are very biting. You can still afford to have dinner, but eating a full meal three times a day will cost a pretty penny.
glamping menu in the bay of eagles
Prices in the glamping restaurant menu without taxes and service fees. The standard hot dish is 650 pesos, this one is about$ 12 + tax 18% + service fee 10%, so count how much to eat for two.
  • Buy alcohol in advance, too, but there is one point:
    • There is no refrigerator in the tents. And in the heat +30-+40 during the day, everything gets very hot. Drinking hot beer or rum and Coke is a lower-than-average pleasure. Keep this in mind.
    • And in the bar, a bottle of beer will be ice cold, but with all taxes of$5.
  • The restaurant serves delicious coffee. For more information about coffee in the Dominican Republic, follow the link.

In conclusion: glamping in the Bay of Eagles in the Dominican Republic is a very interesting, unconventional and insanely cool option for your stay on the beach in the Caribbean. When else can you live in a tent on the Caribbean coast? So I wouldn’t think too much if I were you. If visiting the Bay of Eagles is part of your plans, then feel free to plan 1-2 nights in this glamping experience.

Enjoy gorgeous sunsets, swooping pelicans and delicious octopus for dinner!
