The Maldives is not available to everyone, but tourists have plenty of options in Europe.
With crystal-clear waters and tropical nature, Maldives is a dream destination for many travelers. However, the price of a vacation on this Caribbean island is quite high. And the journey is not close. Therefore, you can consider a more affordable alternative, writes Daily Mail.
According to Travel Republic, the average weekly trip to the Maldives costs more than $2,270 per person, and staying at a five-star all-inclusive hotel during peak season can cost more than $8,500.
Fortunately, there are alternative destinations in Europe that may be of interest to those looking for a closer and more affordable vacation.
1. Corfu
Like the Maldives, it has sandy beaches, great weather, and picturesque landscapes. A week-long vacation on a Greek island during the off-season will cost around $670 per person.
“Corfu combines the beauty of turquoise waters and lush greenery with the charm of a Greek island, all at a much more affordable price than the Maldives. Its cultural richness and picturesque villages make Corfu a versatile place to relax and explore, ” said Clarissa Cappelletti, Group Travel Manager from the UK.
2. Albania
Albania is often referred to as the “Maldives of Europe.” This country boasts white sandy beaches, delicious cuisine, and significantly lower prices than in the Maldives.
The average cost of a meal at an inexpensive restaurant in Albania is about $11, and a cappuccino costs $2.
3. Crete
This is another Greek island with fabulous coastlines. The local beach of Elafonisi has even been described by some visitors as the “Maldives of Europe.” It is known for its unique pink sand, which gets its color from foraminifera, tiny marine creatures that create red-pigmented shells.
Tourists can fly to Chania Airport in Crete, which is about an hour and a half drive from the beach.
Depending on the time of year, a week-long stay in Crete can cost around $950 per person.
4. Malta
Malta, which attracts millions of tourists every year with its beautiful cities and beaches, is an excellent alternative to the Maldives.
“Malta is a gem of the Mediterranean, offering crystal-clear waters, historical charm, and stunning beaches at a fraction of the cost of the Maldives,” said Clarissa.
A week’s stay here can cost as little as $950.
