A photographer has named the 12 most beautiful places in Austria that are worth visiting

The Alpine town of Zell am See topped the list.

Austria is often included in the lists of the most beautiful countries in Europe. This is not surprising, as this small country combines an incredible mix of luxurious Baroque architecture and picturesque Alpine landscapes.

Kerry Walker, a travel journalist and photographer who has won prestigious awards, has named 12 of the best places in Austria that tourists should definitely visit on her blog at Lonely Planet.

“Imagine Austria, and your thoughts will easily drift to the luxurious palaces and coffeehouses of Vienna, the snow-capped peaks of the Tyrolean Alps, the romance of the Danube River, and the symphonies of Mozart playing in the baroque concert halls of Salzburg. If this is your first visit, you will undoubtedly want to see all of this and more. However, this narrow, landlocked country holds much more than meets the eye,” Walker notes.

12 Most Beautiful Places in Austria

  1. Zell am See: for admiring the alpine wilderness.
  2. Vienna: for visiting palaces and cultural sites.
  3. Linz: for lovers of contemporary art and technology.
  4. Salzburg: for a city break.
  5. Graz and the wine roads of Styria: for walks through the vineyards.
  6. Bregenz: for winter sports.
  7. Innsbruck: for mountain adventures.
  8. Bad Gastein: for a vacation at a mountain resort.
  9. Hallstatt and the Salzkammergut Lakes: for a movie-like image.
  10. Steyr and the Kalkalpen National Park: for adventures off the beaten path.
  11. St. Anton am Arlberg: for experienced skiers and hiking enthusiasts.
