Seafood and accommodation are cheap: Spain’s “Cheapest Hidden Gem” Revealed

Public transportation and parking are also cheaper here than in more crowded coastal cities.

Every year, millions of tourists flock to the bustling coastal resorts of Spain to enjoy the sea and the sun. However, for those who want to avoid the bustling centers of Alicante or Mallorca, there is a hidden gem on the southeastern coast of Spain that could be the most affordable vacation spot in the country. This is according to Daily Mail.

We are talking about the city and port of Mazarrón, which is located in the heart of the Costa Calida in Murcia. Not only does it have a rich artistic heritage, but it also offers some of the cheapest vacations in Spain, from fresh seafood for just 6 pounds to accommodation for less than 30 pounds.

Tourists can explore the ancient architecture and unique landscapes, relax on the more than 30 km of golden sandy beaches, and enjoy the local cuisine in traditional taverns that are less crowded than in other parts of the coast.

“Popular destinations include viewpoints overlooking the Mazarrón Bay, abandoned Roman-era mountain sites, vast natural parks such as the Sierra de las Moreras, and the impressive Bolnuevo rock formations,” the article notes.

Also known as Gredas de Bolnuevo or the “Enchanted City”, the geological feature features mushroom-shaped sand structures that are sculpted by millennia of wind and water erosion.

Despite these features, the city remains less commercialized than major cities and resort areas in Spain, which helps to keep food, accommodation, and entertainment costs at a very low level.

Public transportation and parking are also cheaper than in busy coastal cities, making this region a practical choice for budget-conscious travelers or families looking for a low-cost vacation.

The city is also great for summer travel, as the average temperature in July is 31°C, and the winter temperatures are more moderate, ranging from 6°C to 16°C.

“For seafood lovers, Mazarrón’s coastal location and general accessibility mean that local restaurants serve incredibly fresh fish, octopus, and paella at a low cost,” the Daily Mail adds.
