5 Mediterranean destinations worth visiting this year

These destinations are especially attractive for those who do not like crowds of tourists and unnecessary expenses.

If you are planning to spend a summer vacation in the Mediterranean and preferably without mass tourism, then the list of the most peaceful places compiled by experts for 2025 will be very necessary for you.

Here are 5 truly peaceful Mediterranean gems that offer warm weather, cultural attractions and, in some cases, much lower prices, writes Traveloffpath.

1. Porto-Vecchio, France

Corsica’s hidden treasure with narrow streets and a medieval citadel at the top. The main square is surrounded by souvenir shops, French bistros and Italian taverns.

Visitors should not miss the opportunity to explore the magnificent Genoese castle located on a hill overlooking Porto Vecchio, or relax on the stunning Palombaggia beach, where the alabaster coast meets the sea of the brightest blue color.

You’ll be surprised how affordable it is compared to other places in the south of France: at the Alcyon Hotel, single rooms cost $89, or you can stay at the 3-star Le Mistral Hotel, just a 6-minute walk from the city center, for $79 per night.

2. Korcula, Croatia

Korcula may seem tiny, but it is full of wonders: from the house of Marco Polo (rumor has it that the legendary explorer hails from this island, not Venice) to Pupnata Luka, a crescent-shaped, quiet bay bordered by the crystal clear Adriatic.

Other island attractions include Korcula, a walled coastal settlement and the largest town on Korcula, with cobbled streets and centuries-old houses, as well as the fishing village of Vela Luka, a favorite destination for the island’s gourmets.

Be sure to try their Dalmatian ham and homemade pashki cheese, as well as try the local ice cream.

3. Himara, Albania

Albania may not be the first choice for a Mediterranean holiday, but don’t be so quick to give it up when the magnificent Himara is here.

A conglomerate of villages near the Ionian Sea, one of the most underrated areas of the Mediterranean, and surrounded by the Keraunian Mountains, exudes Old World charm with an Albanian-Greek heritage, historic cliff-top settlements, and ruined castles.

Overall, the Albanian Riviera is one of the cheapest beach destinations in Europe, where dining at local restaurants costs just $10, and renovated modern beachfront villas start at $57.

4. Brindisi, Italy

On the heel of an Italian boot, is Brindisi, a lesser-known alternative that tourists usually miss.

The city is more than two millennia old, with a red-stone Aragonese castle perched at the entrance to the harbour, and the Old Town is a maze of pastel-colored buildings, Roman ruins, and family-run trattorias serving fresh seafood and pasta.

Lido Morelli, a white sandy beach with turquoise waters, is a 29-minute drive from Brindisi, and Lido Specchiolla, a sparsely populated strip of sand ideal for relaxing, is a 20 – minute drive away.

Don’t forget to check out La Locanda del Porto. Not only does it offer spectacular views of the port of Brindisi, it serves the best swordfish spaghetti in the city.

5. Folegandros, Greece

This is a typical Greek island with a small territory. Its small capital, Chora, is perched on a rocky hill, and the iconic Panagia Church stands on its highest peak. Every hiking trail leads to spectacular views, and there are white cityscapes, beaches, and an abundance of secret coves, without tourists.

There aren’t many hotels on the island, but the ones that do charge only a fee ($83-95), and your dinners at To Zimaraki will also be cheap.
